Let’s Move! meets Move to Learn

mtlIN BRIEF:
Since January, the Move to Learn campaign has been gaining major momentum across Mississippi – and the country. Move to Learn, a Ramey project supported by The Bower Foundation and the Mississippi Department of Education Office of Healthy Schools, works to provide free online resources to teachers to help them get their students moving. It’s founded on the research that as fitness levels increase, academic achievement does, too. Charged with the challenge of spreading this movement, Ramey created a series of free online fitness videos suited for small classrooms.

Healthier kids making better grades? Sounds like a win-win to us.

Recently, First Lady Michelle Obama and Rachael Ray – as part of the First Lady’s Let’s Move! campaign – visited the Clinton Public School District to showcase the incredible work the district has been doing to encourage healthy student lifestyles. As part of the visit, Mrs. Obama highlighted (and participated in) Move to Learn.

Beyond Mrs. Obama’s visit, here are a few of the highlights of Move to Learn’s recent growth:
• Over 13,000 views of the Move to Learn breaks
• 10 in-school Move to Learn visits with 15 more scheduled
• A 297% increase in website visits since January 1
